I'm about to graduate with a BA in Performing Arts this summer. I would like to move to California, (hopefully San Francisco area) and substitute teach for a while.
What are the requirements? What tests, forms do I need to complete? How long do these steps take? What office do I need to contact?|||You need to get your CA teaching credentials before you can start substitute teaching in San Fran or any other area of California.
Once you have your bachelor's in performing arts you need to begin an approved teacher preparation program approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). All California school districts have different requirements, so make sure you research the specific requirements for the district you want to teach in.
You also need to get classroom teaching experience by being a student teacher and pass both the CBEST and CSET exam. (I think that all California teachers also have to complete a US Constitution Course, but you may have already satisfied this requirement in your undergrad).
After this you can apply for your California teaching credential and start substitute teaching in sunny California! I found this website really helpful:

Good luck! :)|||In California you need a bachelor鈥檚 degree in any subject, a CBEST passage card, and a 30-day substitute permit. You do not need a teaching credential to substitute teach.

|||not sure about the process in California, but in my state, the potential substitutes go directly to the schools they wish to substitute at to inquire and they take it from there
