Many people have said the liberals nest in California and yet they opposed the union of gays . How can this be right ? Is California as liberal as people say or just another State that understands whats best for America in the long run ?|||Read about the 2nd grade teacher that took her class on a field trip to a lesbian wedding the month before this vote.

People outside this state do not look at the school ties this issue had. It was not a simple yes or no on marriage alone. If it was marriage alone the school teacher unions would not have been fighting it with teacher union money. Teaching was the issue if they would have made it iron clad no teaching it would have not been a problem.

If you look up in the last two days this question has been asked over and over and every time it was asked it never included teaching in the question.

Clarify these issue and it would have been struck down:

Marriage - fine

Teaching to kids? - different story

If it is not about teaching? - why the hell are teacher unions spending money to fight it

tax issues? Make it clear that tax exempt status
would not be hurt by churches that refuse to do gay marriages.

Then you get questions here - gay marriage and none of the other issues mentioned.

There was too much gay pork attached to the bill.

|||This is what I understand. A small majority of whites voted no, a larger majority of blacks and mexicans votes yes. I think it tells you something about blacks and Mexicans. Even though they vote democrat, they are socially conservative.|||It is absolutely heartbreaking they have reversed it. I feel really bad for all the couples who spent money on weddings, and were so happy, and now to just have it erased, it must be infuriating. Constitutionally, it is wrong.|||This one hit me pretty hard. It's embarassing to California.

We in Arizona shot this down 2 years ago, but it came around again this election and it was narrowly passed.

I just don't get it. Why the heck should anyone care who sleeps with who?|||Because California isn't a liberal state. It never has been. It has a few large liberal cities and that's it. |||The Mormon Church pumped $20 million into the Yes on 8 campaign to inflict their religious views onto California and the public bought their lies||| Kudos to California. Morality is not dead even amongst the country's largest collection of liberals.|||real liberals don't believe in marriage at all - be it gay or hetero. living together is just plain fine.|||I am from california born and raised and I voted yes on prop 8 mainly because i do not want school age children taught this kind of garbage. also it goes against the teachings of the bible|||yes they have a right to say no to samesex marriage.

and ca is a liberal hotbed..so im shocked.|||No, CA is breaking the Constitution by denying equal rights to a select minority...|||That is the first thing they have done that I would have........we sure know they did not vote the way they should have.
