(take the 5 north but be careful of rush hour... gets brutal)... from los angeles to san francisco anywhere from 6 to 8 hours (beautiful scenic routes driving up the 1)... and from san diego to the top of california... at least half a day... these are estimates of course if you didn't stop... oh and also... go up PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) if you get the chance! Also try and visit Sequoia National Park... beautiful... hope you have fun!
