I want to go to UCLA, but I live in new York and it is too expensive for me to pay out of state tuition to go there. How do you become a citizen of California and can I get an idea of the price of in state tuition? Thank you.|||You have to be a resident of California for a year and a day to qualify for in-state tuition (the day after you've lived in the state a year, you can file for residency). What sucks though is that you need to prove you live in the state with mail or a bill or something, so you could actually be in the state longer than a year before you have adequate proof.
Here's some more information:
Determination of Residence
A. Adults 鈥?every person who is married or who is 18 years of age or older on the residence determination date may determine his or her own residence.
B. Minors 鈥?those persons under 18 years of age may establish residence in accordance with the following:
1. Married minors may establish their own residence.
2. If the parents are separated permanently, the residence of the minor is the residence of the parent with whom he/she lives.
3. If both parents are deceased, and there is no court-appointed guardian, the minor may establish his/her own residence.
4. A student who remains in the state after his/her parents, who had legal residence in California, have established residence elsewhere, shall be entitled to retain resident classification until he/she has attained the age of majority and has resided in the state the minimum time necessary to become a resident so long as continuous attendance is maintained at the institution.
5. A student may combine his/her time as a resident minor with his/her time as a resident adult to establish the one year necessary for California resident classification.|||you will have to move to Calif. establish residency here and go from there
if you still have ties ie. bank, car registration etc in NY, that will indicate you haven't established Calif. residency
Calif. feels that if you are in the state at least 15 days you need to get your car license changed to Calif. and to become a resident you really need to establish financial ties to the state|||You have to physically live there for 12 months prior to filing for in-state tuition. You can't just get a postal box either. It is very difficult to cheat the system unless you take a year off from school and just work before applying.|||if you hav family members that live there you can have your mail sent there. proof that u live there
