I'm planning to run around the same block over and over for about 1 or 2 miles but I need to know how many blocks is 1 mile in southern california.|||You'd indeed need to find your particular block and calculate it.
If you can get someone to drive it in a car, you can use the odometer to estimate. Keep in mind if they're on the road and you're on an inside loop on the sidewalk, you're running a little shorter than the car measures.
You can go to a mapping service like Mapquest and keep entering addresses like you would for directions, or in some places you can drag markers around on a route, and you can see what it says distances are.|||All blocks are not necessarily all the same length so giving you an amount of blocks can be completely inaccurate or close to being accurate. What I recommend doing is to go on Map Quest and type in house addresses around your block until you reach the distance that you would like to run.
