Ya. The title pretty much tells it all. How do i know if my California Kingsnake is male or female?|||You have to "probe" the poor snake, which is incredibly invasive and should only be done by a professional.

If you can't afford to take him/her to a vet, try a reptile store. That is, a store that SPECIFICALLY sells reptiles & supplies. The employees there are usually quite knowledgable, and often have breed these animals themselves. I would not trust a PetCo employee to do it.|||you need to take it to a professional i have done this in school and you have to stick a prob in it and i highly recommend you don't just have anybody do it.|||your best off taking it to a vet sexing snakes can be difficult and sometimes dangerous if u want to try look at the vent and see if there is any bulgies on each side maybe it would be a good idea but it does guarntee nothing else should be down unless u know what ure doing so i think taking it 2 a vet that deals with reptiles is a better idea|||As previously mentioned, the only sure fire way is to have someone who is experienced in sexing snakes 'probe' your snake. This is a delicate procedure and should not be tried by amateurs.

If you compare two snakes of the same species and same size, typically the male will have a longer tail and a slight swelling at the base of the tail.|||Well, if it wears a little skirt......

If you take it to a good reptile store or breeder, they can either look at it and get an idea (for most snakes, males have a longer tail than females), or ONLY IF THEY ARE QUALIFIED AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING they can probe your snake. This involves taking a stainless steel probe and inserting it into the cloaca. Male snakes need room for their hemipenes, so they have a deeper cloacal cavity than females. Again, ONLY ALLOW A SKILLED PERSON TO PROBE YOUR SNAKE.

Then again, if you're not planning on breeding, you can just make it up, you've got a 50% chance of being right anyway.|||the only way to tell for sure is to have it probed

I have heard that if the vent is closer to the tail its male and if the vent is closer up towards the body its female but i wouldnt rely on this as being true|||it has to go to a vet and they will probe it to tell.
