I might be moving to Arizona and I just wanted to know what things are different out there from Los Angeles, California. Are there any laws out there that are not in California? What laws have less consequences from CA?|||I moved to Phoenix from the Bay Area in Cal. about 10 years ago and found it very intresting especially the politics and how to live in the heat. The highways are very nice and smooth because less traffic, unlike Calif with bad roads. They have nice rest stops on Hwy 10 and they are clean. In the summer you need the AC on all night and the bill is quite high. The pool was warm after 8 am and people try to put cold water into the pool to cool water down. You cannot walk around very far even with water. There is smog in Phoenix but not like L.A. The university is pretty good, ASU, in Tempe just south of Scottsdale where I was. Some people drive fast on the streets but don't get tickets. And they park wherever they want to in a lot. I am used to polite people in San Francisco. There is a feeling of the wild west sometimes because Arizonans are independent but not progressive. There are a lot of snowbirds in the winter from places like Michigan and illinois and you see a lot of white-haired people who drive slowly. Thats them. Some areas of Phoenix have a lot of crime, some areas are rich. The desert landscaping is beautiful and if you like a deserted road, just 20 miles north of Scottsdale to Carefree it is isolated. There is more rain there and it really comes down. In September they get humid weather from Mexico. The traffic laws are different but you have to check on that yourself. No state has the consumer protections of California. The real estate was much cheaper too and apartments cost half of L.A. or San Francisco.|||I forgot that they dont have all the services California does like State Disability because they are pretty right-wing. A plus is that you can get your drivers license in about a day and you can get other stuff fast. Also they have a lot of furnished temporary apartment rentals.

|||Well there's no marijuana card in AZ.

The traffic's not as bad, but since everyone is moving here from mexico and cali, it's starting to get worse.

Depending on where you move, Cali weather is definitely better. Although northern and some southern AZ is really nice.

In my experience, AZ cops seem to be harsher on speeders. But some people would disagree...|||Socially, in Phoenix, its about the same as southern California (by socially I mean in terms of people and such).|||Well, you'll obviously miss the ocean and its breezes. Your weather inland is hot so our hot summer weather won't be a huge shock. Laws? Well, the main one that comes to mind are our beloved photo enforcement cameras. There are signs ahead of the cameras (if you notice them) telling you that you are entering a photo enforcement area. If you are speeding they will take your photo and you will be mailed a citation - notice of violation and billed $181.50. Yes they will enforce it if you don't pay. They're also starting to pull people over for speeding even if you're only going 5 miles over limit. A lot of this is due to our bad economy here in Arizona and the need to help out the budget.|||Here in Arizona we still believe in the right of self defense. We believe in the 2nd amendment. That I hope will never change. But given the number of people who move to Arizona 90% being from Southern Ca. you never know. If you want to come to AZ and live the lifestyle we in AZ enjoy then you are welcome. If you want to come here and make AZ anything like that S**T HOLE you live in now stay in Ca.
