california: what are some animals like ferrets or sugar gliders that are legal as pets in california? sugar gliders are cute, but not legal to own as pets in my state.. any advice will help so much.!! =]|||I have a chinchilla, and they are like ferrets but legal! Very cute, soft and furry, they're wonderful animals. Of course there are rabbits, Guinea Pigs, different kinds of hamsters, and cats. I can't think or find anymore that are legal, but hedgehogs and flying squirrels are illegal. Ferrets have been illegal for a very king time. But with ferrets it's because they claim them to be "wild animals" and if let go in the wild they would reproduce like rabbits. Thing is, most ferrets are neutered and spayed from a super young age. And if a ferret were to be let out into the wild, it would not survive more then a couple days.
