hispanics. i remember when i was in New Orleans, suddenly almost no hispanic people in sight, just black and white people, many many black people. also Asian people in Lousiana also suddenly very few, but there are LOTS of Asian people in Texas, and LOTS LOTS of Asian people in California.|||CA, AZ, NM, and TX all border on Mexico. FL was originally colonized by the Spanish. LA, MS, and AL simply never received many Hispanics as a result of both geography and history.

New Orleans does have a large Hispanic community but it is thoroughly assimilated (relatively few recent immigrants). A cliche' about the refugees from Cuba in the 1960s was that Miami got all the farmers & fishermen while New Orleans got the doctors, lawyers, and architects.

The influx of Hispanics NOLA experienced after Katrina has mostly reversed and the majority are gone.

New Orleans has a noticeable Asian population because of immigrants from Vietnam in the middle 1970s after the Communists conquered the South.. Most of the Vietnamese people who immigrated didn't speak English, their children speak English with an accent, and their grandchildren (today's teenagers) are just American kids.|||NOLA guy must not be anywhere near midcity-there is still a substantial post-katrina population here. You can see that by shopping at Rouses or driving by Home Depot on Carrollton.

Since Katrina there has been a huge influx of hispanic people in New Orleans-mostly residing in the area of town know as midcity. There is even a special elementary charter school, Esperanza, in that neighborhood. As for Asian's, there is a very large Vietnamese community in N.O. East, so large in fact, that New Orleans elected the first vietnamese american to Congress. Of course, if you just drive through town and hit Bourbon street, you will never know or see any of this.|||Last year during horse racing season, the feds came in and said they were going to start charging the tracks 1000 dollars per illegal immigrant and then they were gone. Me and the wife were living up on Maurepas right by Canseco's and those people would come buy ALL of the Budweiser tallboys. I mean ALL of them and then one day they were just gone.|||There are more hispanics in LA now than ever before. There are a lot of Asians in CA bc more and more immigrate there where there are a lot of great technical jobs and schools. I moved away from LA 20 years ago and am amazed how many Mexican restaurants there are now.|||Well I'm mean California is on the west boarder which is closer to Asia so it makes sense that there is lots of Asians in California|||Maybe the alligators ate them....|||Duh! Those two states are on the border!
