It really depends on the motion. Some 'emergency' motions have to be heard quickly. Otherwise your motion may get added to a very large stack on the judge's desk.

If there is a really long delay, it might be a violation of rules for judges, and you may be able to file a complaint. I suggest that you get legal advice before taking any action against a judge, especially one that is about to rule on your motion.
