What is the percentage of California that is made up of Mountains, or what amount of square miles of mountains is there in California?|||the total area of california is 163,707 square miles and its mean elevation is 2900 feet. so we might conclude that about half the state - or 81,853 square miles - lies above 2,900 feet and may be considered to be part of the various mountain ranges in the state. |||you are looking at about 156K sq. miles overall in the state. i would say about 80K-90K is mountainous.
